The Carpathian Mountains are mountain ranges present throughout Central and Eastern Europe. 



It is the third-longest European mountain range with a length of 1500 km.



The Climate of Carpathians is of  continental type.



Carpathia  is the name of region in Europe.



Carpathia was name of ship which helped to saved the survivors of sinking ship RMS Titanic.

The highest range of Carpathians is Tatra mountains in which is in Slovakia and highest peak of this range is Gerlachovský  which is 2,655 m (8,711 ft) above sea level.






Carpathian mountain ranges are divided into three major regions:




Western Carpathians: forms the part of Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary




The Western Carpathians are of lowest height in Romanian Carpathians, but they are habitated with traditional villages, numerous caves and karst formations. 



The easiest way to explore this part is through horse riding, by foot or bicycling etc.



This region is having three protected areas such as  Apuseni Mountains Nature Park, Cheile-Nerei Beusnita National Park and Semenic-Cheile Carasului National Park.



One best stop is in the small and hospitable villages of the Aries Valley to enjoy and relax in the natural and slow rhythm of traditional life.



This is having largest windmill park of South-East Europe, in the village of Eftimie Murgu.

 In Apuseni more than 400 caves are there many gorges and karst formations like Cetatile Ponorului from the Padis plateau.



The Bear’s Cave is the longest cave in the country,



Meziad Cave and Scarisoara Cave is the biggest underground glacier in Romania and the second largest in Europe.



Eastern Carpathians:  includes the part of southeastern Poland, eastern Slovakia, Ukraine, and Romania.




This is longest group of ranges which you can explore easily through horse riding, By foot, or through bicycling.



The major protected areas of this region are Calimani National Park, Rodnei Mountains National Park, Ceahlau National Park, Maramures Mountains Nature Park, Cheile Bicazului-Hasmas National Park, Putna Vrancea Nature Park.



Most difficult rock-climbing trails of country is in  Bicaz Gorges.



Some small hikes are Ciucas Mountains, Rarau Mountains and Creasta Cocosului.



Some  passes like Transrarau, Prislop, Tihuta, Mestecanis are of scenic locations.



In the Eastern Carpathians, there is  glacial lakes like Lala and Buhaescu which is in Rodnei Mountains.



 There is only volcanic lake of Romania is at Sfanta Ana.



the largest natural dam lake in Romania  is Cuejdel.



Bicaz Lake is the biggest artificial lake in the country.



Southern Carpathians: includes Romania and Serbia.




Southern Carpathians is Also called the Transylvanian Alps because of   their height.

The main protected areas are Piatra Craiului National Park, Fagaras Mountains, Retezat National Park, Buila-Vanturarita National Park, Cozia National Park, Gradistea Muncelului-Cioclovina Nature Park, Bucegi Mountains, Parang Mountains.




 The longest and highest limestone ridge in the Carpathians is Piatra Craiului ridge.



 Moldoveanu Peak (2,544 meters) is the highest altitude in the country on Fagaras Mountains.



Retezat National Park,is the most impressive wilderness in the Carpathian Mountains.



The  largest unfragmented forest area is also present in Southern Carpathians



The longest and highest (over 2,000 meters) mountain roads in the country are Transalpina (148 km), and Transfagarasan (92 km).








The Carpathian mountains inhabited by large number of faunal diversity like  brown bears, wolves, chamois, and lynxes, having highest numbers in Romania.



Over one third of all all European plant species are also present in this region.



After Russia largest area of virgin forests which is 250,000 hectares (65%) are also present Carpathians in Romania.




The many important cities near the Carpathians are: Bratislava and Košice in Slovakia, Kraków in Poland,

Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, and Brașov in Romania, and Uzhhorod in Ukraine.



The Carpathian mountains lack the plucky peaks, substancial snowfields, large glaciers, high waterfalls, and numerous large lakes



It was believed there was no snow all year round and there were no glaciers in Carpathian ranges but Recent research by Polish scientists discovered that one permafrost and glacial area is also present in Tatra Mountains.



Danube seperates Carpathian mountains and Alps. 



The Carpathian mountains and Alps meet at the Leitha Mountains at Bratislava



The Pannonian plain surrounds Carpathian watershed from the northern seas and the Black Sea to south west and Danubian Plain to the south and in northeast by Galician plain. 



Various Mountain passes in  Carpathians mountains in Romania Are Prislop Pass, Tihuța Pass, Bicaz Canyon, Ghimeș Pass, Buzău Pass, Predeal Pass, Turnu Roșu Pass, Vulcan Pass and the Iron Gate.
