The Ural Mountains range is considered to be one of the most ancient on Earth.
It is aged at over 350 million years old.
The entire range measures over 2000 km (1250 miles).
The mountains begin in the Polar regions of Russia at the Arctic Ocean shore.
They stretch across the country from north to south extending into the prairies of Kazakhstan.

The first railway in ural mountains was built in 1878 from Perm to Yekaterinburg.
The first geographic survey of the Ural Mountains was done by the Russian historian and geographer Vasily Tatishchev under the command of Peter I.

There are nine natural reserves in the Urals: the Ilmen, the oldest one, Pechora-Ilych, Bashkir, Visim , Southern Ural, Basegi, Vishera and Denezhkin Kamen.
The Ural mountain forests are habitat to various animals like elk, brown bear, fox, wolf, wolverine, lynx, squirrel, sable, badger and black polecat .
Among Reptiles and amphibians there are various viper, lizards and grass snakes.
Among Bird species are capercaillie, black grouse, hazel grouse, spotted nutcracker, and cuckoos.
