The Blue Ridge Mountain is located in the eastern United States, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.
This province divide near the Roanoke River gap. To the west of the Blue Ridge, lies the Great Appalachian Valley, bordered on the west by the Ridge and Valley of the Appalachian range.
The Blue Ridge Mountains are looks bluish in color when seen from a distance due to isoprene released by trees of blue mountain into the atmosphere. This Blue lighting conditions gives its name Blue Mountains.
Within Blue Ridge Mountains there are two national parks – the Shenandoah National Park in the northern part, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the southern part – and eight national forests which includes
George Washington and Jefferson National Forests,
Cherokee National Forest, Pisgah National Forest,
Nantahala National Forest and Chattahoochee National Forest.
The Mountains also have the Blue Ridge Parkway, which connects the two parks and is located within the Appalachian Trek.
The English who found out Virginia within the early 17th century found that the native Powhatan nameBlue Ridge Mountains was Quirank.
Around the Blue Ridge region, various tribes including
the Siouan Manahoacs, the Iroquois, and therefore the Shawnee hunted and fished.
A German physician and explorer, John Lederer, first reached the summit of the Blue Ridge Mountains in 1669 and again the year 1670; he also founded the Virginia Siouan name for the Blue Ridge (Ahkonshuck).
According to Treaty of Albany between elected official Alexander Spotswood (1676–1740), of Virginia and therefore the Iroquois between in 1718 and 1722, the Iroquois ceded lands south of the Potomac and east of the Blue Ridge region to the Virginia Colony.
This treaty made the Blue Ridge Mountains mountains the new boundary point between the areas and tribes granted on certain terms the Iroquois League , and people tributaries to the Colony.
The Blue Ridge Mountains contains stunted oak and oak-hickory forest habitats, of the Appalachian slope forests. Flora of this habitat includes grass, shrubs, hemlock and mixed-oak pine forests.
The Blue Ridge range includes the highest summits in the eastern United States, the range lacks the tree vegetation found at lower elevations in the northern half of the Appalachian range.
The highest elevations of the Blue Ridge has dense vegetation of spruce-fir forests.

The term "Blue Ridge" is used exclusively to the eastern edge of the Appalachian Mountains,
the geologically the Blue Ridge area extends west to the Ridge and Valley area,surround the Great Smoky Mountains, the Great Balsams, the Roans, the Blacks, the Brushy Mountains (also known as spur of Blue Ridge mountain) and other mountain ranges.
The Blue Ridge extends to Mount Oglethorpe in Georgia and to Pennsylvania as South Mountain.

The highest peak within the Blue Ridge Mountains is Mt. Mitchell in North Carolina at elevation of 2,037 m.
